This afternoon, the World Premiere of The Melting Family screens at 1:45PM at the IFC Center with director Nicole Groton in appearance.  Watch as she tells the story of her family’s seven marriages and divorces and redefines our idea of the “broken family” in the process.

Later in the afternoon, Ben Powell’s visually striking documentary Barge screens in the Viewfinders section and follows a Mississippi towboat and its precious cargo to its final destination in New Orleans. This NYC Premiere screens at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas at 2:30PM with Ben Powell in attendance.

A Good American‘s North American Premiere screens at 6:45PM at the IFC Center and profiles Bill Binney who went from an NSA insider to a critic of government intelligence. Bill Binney will attend the screening along with director, producer and cinematographer Friedrich Moser, producer Michael Seeber and subjects Ed Loomis, Tom Drake and Diane Roark.

The Invaders will have its World Premiere at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas at 7:00PM. In the film, director Prichard Smith uncovers the history and significance of a new, radicalized group of civil rights activists detailing their surprising behind the scenes involvement with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the pivotal days leading to his assassination. The film is preceded by an 8-minute short: Dress Code’s Emory Douglas: The Art of the Black Panthers: a portrait of art used as a revolutionary weapon.

This evening, Ann Roth will attend the NYC Premiere of Women He’s Undressed (pictured) at 9:15PM at the SVA theatre about Oscar-winning costume designer Orry-Kelly who lived a hidden life as a gay man. 

Meanwhile at the IFC Center also at 9:15PM is the NYC Premiere of Newman where a maverick inventor battles against the scientific establishment over a miraculous energy-producing machine. Director Jon Fox, executive producers Danny Forster, Judy Bart and Erica Kahn, editor Yasu Inoue and animator Dustin Grella are all expected to attend.
