#DOCNYCalum: THE ABOMINABLE CRIME and THE FINAL MEMBER on DVD

June 12, 2014

THE ABOMINABLE CRIME (DOC NYC 2013) out on DVD.

Exposing the roots of homophobia in Jamaican society, THE ABOMINABLE CRIME tells the story of a mother’s love for her child and an activist’s love for his country. It gives voice to Jamaicans like Simone Edwards, who survived an anti-gay shooting, and Maurice Tomlinson, a leading activist who is forced to flee the country after being outed. Info here.

THE FINAL MEMBER (DOC NYC 2013) out on DVD next week.

Siggi, the curator of the Icelandic Phallological Museum, has spent decades collecting every mammal’s member save one— the human’s. Enter Páll, a now-ancient Icelandic adventurer willing to donate his upon death; and Tom, an oddball American who’s willing to have it amputated so that he can make it into the museum before Páll does. Info here.

CITIZEN KOCH (DOC NYC 2013) at IFC Center.

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling lifted a century-long ban on corporate election spending. Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin (Trouble the Water) track its effects by following the standoff between Wisconsin state employees and Republican Governor Scott Walker, who was bankrolled by billionaire industrialists David and Charles Koch. Tickets here.
