Awards

DOC NYC has multiple competitive sections with juries, plus an annual Audience Award. In 2021, the festival is making new additions to its juried sections with the U.S. Competition and the International Competition to replace the previous Viewfinders Competition. We’re also introducing the Kaleidoscope Competition to focus on work that’s more essayistic and poetic.

The longstanding Metropolis Competition focuses on New York City stories. The Shorts Competition covers all the titles in the Shorts Program.

Additionally, we have juries for our Short List sections that represent the best of the year’s releases. The Short List: Features jury gives awards in the categories of Director, Producer, Editor and Cinematographer. The Short List: Shorts jury gives a Director Award.

The winners of the 2021 Grand Jury Prize in the U.S., Metropolis, and Shorts competitions will receive a deliverables package provided by PostWorks New York.

The winner of the 2021 Audience Award will receive a camera loan package provided by Sony, a leading manufacturer of digital cinema cameras to fit all levels of documentary production.
