The votes are in… and the winner of DOC NYC’s 2021 Audience Award is THE REVEREND! Vince Anderson made his way to New York to enter the seminary, but his true calling, music, changed his life forever. With his band, The Love Choir, Vince’s now-legendary weekly show became an institution in the Brooklyn music scene. Through powerful revival-style performance and social activism, Vince’s intimate journey of faith and fervor serves as a genuine example of modern spirituality.

Our runners up are GRANDPA WAS AN EMPEROR, a DOC NYC world premiere where the great-granddaughter of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie investigates what happened to her beloved father after the 1974 coup that landed most of her family in prison, & A TREE OF LIFE,  in which survivors of the deadly white supremacist attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh recount the harrowing experience and detail how their lives have fundamentally changed.
