WORLD PREMIERE In the wake of Suez Canal closures, American-owned Gulf Oil pivots to Ireland, opening a massive new terminal on Whiddy Island. As geopolitical tensions ease, the financial benefits begin to wane, and a disastrous terminal explosion scars the community for years to come. Whiddy is one of 10 nominated films in DOC NYC’s inaugural Archival Storytelling Competition, developed in collaboration with Archival Producers Alliance and co-presented by Footage.Net, Fox Archives, and Global ImageWorks. To see the list of other nominated films, click here.
The first screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Adrian McCarthy, co-director/editor Brenda Morrissey, and producer Maria Horgan.
