Co-hosted by the Documentary Producer’s Alliance.

Ever found yourself negotiating a contract for a documentary project — but unsure how to fully advocate for yourself as a producer? We invite you to an important event centered on the groundbreaking DPA resource, “Negotiating Contracts for Independent Documentary Producers” — a first-of-its-kind tool designed specifically for U.S.-based doc producers.

This guide lays out recommended minimum pay rates, key steps and conversations to have before joining a project, the essential elements of a producer’s contract, plus a glossary of legal terms and helpful resources. Its goal? To help producers navigate stronger, fairer deals while building a sustainable and rewarding career.

Join independent producers and DPA members Ariel Baska and Leah de Leon in conversation with Nicole Compas (Ramo Law), who will share insider tips and best practices for successful contract negotiation.

Tickets are $19 ($14 for IFC Center members). Tickets are non-refundable. Please note: this is an ONLINE event.

All registrants can join the live session and will receive the transcript, chat, and slides (if available).

If you have questions about registration, please email ticketing@docnyc.net. For questions about accommodations and accessibility, including requests for live ASL interpretation, please email accessibility@docnyc.net.
