Joe Frazier RIP

November 08, 2011

Heavyweight champion and subject of the DOC NYC film Joe Frazier: When the Smoke Clears died of liver cancer yesterday. He was 67.

Tonight’s screening of Joe Frazier: When the Smoke Clears is sold out, but two more screenings have been added for Thursday, November 10 at  1pm and 8:15pm, both at IFC. This film reveals an unknown side of Frazier, from his roots in South Carolina’s Gullah community to his international fame as a sports icon to his commitment to his adopted home of Philadelphia. Director Mike Todd followed Frazier as his landmark gym, the White House, closes after more than forty years. Frazier had planned to attend tonight’s screening of the film about his life, but went into hospice on Saturday. Director Mike Todd will participate in a Q&A after the film.
