Andrew Nadkarni Filmmaker

Andrew Nadkarni is an Oscar-shortlisted filmmaker based in Brooklyn. His directorial debut, Between the Earth and Sky (POV/PBS), won ‘Best Documentary Short’ at Big Sky and Hot Springs, earned Critics’ Choice and Cinema Eye nominations, and screened at over 100 festival and community events before being shortlisted for the 2024 Academy Awards.
A multiracial filmmaker, Andrew excavates intergenerational narratives within diaspora communities, embracing ambiguity, contradiction, and the power of being in process. Committed to a more sustainable industry, he integrates community care into his storytelling practice.
A 2023 BRIClab Artist in Residence, Andrew serves on festival juries and reads for grant organizations. Recent work includes an episode of In the Making (Firelight/American Masters). He is currently working on projects with Art21, REI, and Refugee Women’s Network. Past production credits span documentary and narrative, including Bel Canto (Peacock), Glass Onion (Netflix), and Actual People (MUBI).
