Pagan Harleman is an Emmy award winning filmmaker who specializes in innovative storytelling. She attended NYU Grad Film and initially focused on narrative — working in post with Spike Lee, Ang Lee, and Alan Rudolph — before pivoting to documentary. She has vast experience as a show-runner creating challenging and engaging stories that run the gamut of subjects and has collaborated with a range of celebrated filmmakers including Robert Redford, Marc Levin, Sam Pollard, Murray Lerner, Martin Smith, Kristi Jacobson, and Matt Heineman. Her work, including the Emmy-Award Winning and IDA-Award winning series The Trade, and the Emmy-Award winning and IDA-Award winning film The First Wave, and the PGA Award winning and Oscar shortlisted film American Symphony, has premiered at prestige festivals including Sundance, Sheffield, the New York Film Festival, South by Southwest, Telluride, and the London Film Festival and appeared on netflix, abc, hulu, HBO, Showtime, DisneyPlus, Discovery, CNN, and Showtime. Most recently she helped create and direct on Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin, and Photographer, both with Oscar winners Jimmy Chin and Chai Vaserhalyi for NatGeo.
