Save the date!!

DOC NYC, America’s largest documentary festival, returns for its fifth year on Nov. 13 – 20, 2014.

Submissions:

Submissions for feature and short documentaries are now live and full info is here. Early bird deadline is March 7.

Festival News:

We are especially proud to report that this year DOC NYC became an Academy-qualifying festival for short films. The winner of DOC NYC’s Grand Jury Prize for Short Film will qualify for consideration in the Documentary Short Subject category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

Alumni Updates:

2014 OSCAR CONTENDERS: 9 of the 10 films in DOC NYC’s 2013 Short List made it to the Academy’s own shortlist last December, of which 4 became Oscar-nominees last month. We wish the best of luck to DOC NYC alumns 20 FEET FROM STARDOM, ACT OF KILLING, DIRTY WARS and THE SQUARE, as well as CUTIE AND THE BOXER (a film we recently presented).

MAJOR NEWS ON ‘SCENES OF A CRIME’ (Viewfinders winner, 2011):

On Feb. 20, 2014, Adrian Thomas’s conviction was overturned by New York’s Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court. The Court found the interrogation procedures “coercive” and the confession “involuntary,” and ordered a retrial without the confession statements. View all updates here.
