It is often a challenge to predict royalties and, having made a deal, it can be hard to track royalties owed from distributors. Documentary film markets and the revenues are rapidly changing while filmmakers struggle to make sense of it all. This panel will discuss the importance of establishing deal points at the time of sale that will give filmmakers a greater expectation of revenues that exceed minimum guarantees. It will examine the markets from a dollars and cents perspective and shine a light on the potential revenues from primary and ancillary markets. The panel will explore the ins and outs of reading accounting statements, collecting and auditing. Panelists include entertainment attorneys Dan Satorius (Satorius Law Firm, PC) and Victoria Cook (Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC); and sales agent Josh Braun (Submarine).
Note: This panel is part of a larger day of panels called STATE OF THE INDIE DOC. Learn from the experts how to maximize exposure and limit risks as an independent filmmaker. Other panels include: Meet The Press, Turning Tough Topics into Great Stories and What’s Fair about Fair Use.
All panels co-presented by A&E indieFilms.
