MEET THE PRESS

Bookmark and Share

With hundreds of documentaries produced each year, how can filmmakers get press coverage? Veteran film journalists talk about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to getting their attention.

Panelists include:

John Anderson is a film critic for Variety, the Washington Post, and Newsday. His work appears regularly in The New York Times.

Eric Kohn is the lead film critic for indieWIRE. His writing has also
appeared The New York Times and elsewhere. He holds bachelors and
masters degrees in cinema studies from NYU.

Jason Spingarn-Koff is the video journalist for Opinion at The New York Times, and a documentary filmmaker whose directing credits include Life 2.0. He is leading a new initiative at The Times called Op-Docs: opinionated, short-video documentaries, with wide creative ranges, about current affairs and contemporary life from both renowned and emerging filmmakers.

Alison Willmore is a film journalist and critic whose writing can be found at Movieline, the AV Club, and the Time Outs New York and Chicago.

Note: This panel is part of a larger day of panels called STATE OF THE INDIE DOC. Learn from the experts how to maximize exposure and limit risks as an independent filmmaker.  Other panels include: Turning Tough Topics Into Good Stories, What’s Fair in Fair Use? and Maximizing Revenues.

All panels co-presented by A&E indieFilms.
