Creative Development Consultant
As a nonfiction producer, Mandi has successfully developed and produced series for long-form TV networks, digital channels and podcast platforms. Regardless of platform or medium, a great story is the driving force behind everything she takes on.
In 2015, Mandi started producing long form documentary series that ranged in subject from scientific breakthroughs and exploring the natural world to families struggling with addiction. Her combined experience of real people casting and practical field production led to working in creative development and a move to New York. Her development track record includes: Yukon Gold, a documentary series for National Geographic, The Outlaw Chronicles for History Channel, and being part of the team that launched History Channel’s digital and social series, History Now. The series featured modern-day history makers at the heart of social, technological and political movements.
Most recently, she managed a slate of nonfiction documentary podcasts in a staff role with Wondery/Amazon. After nearly three years on staff with Wondery as a creative executive, she’s recently returned to freelancing and offers creative development consulting, hands-on production and real people casting. She’s a firm believer and active member in media collectives: The Video Consortium, Miss en Scene and Media Mavens.
Understanding the U.S. Doc Market for International Filmmakers
Thu., April 2nd. 9-10:15am ET. OnlineThis event is co-hosted by the Sheffield Doc Fest.
Featuring industry leaders Mandi Gorenstein and Kathleen McInnis, this session addresses a common challenge for international filmmakers: navigating the U.S. documentary market. Designed specifically for producers and directors working outside the U.S., the conversation offers a clear, current overview of how the market is functioning right now.
Together, we’ll break down who the key decision‑makers are, festivals, sales agents, distributors, streamers, and broadcasters, what they tend to prioritize, and how international projects typically enter the conversation. This online workshop will provide a grounded understanding of how the system works, helping filmmakers approach timing, materials, and outreach with greater clarity and confidence.
