Saturday at DOC NYC

November 06, 2010

It’s officially the weekend, and it’s time to kick back and relax. DOC NYC has a stellar lineup of films and events today, including Errol Morris’ A Brief History of Time on the life and work of Stephen Hawking. Writing in Newsweek, David Ansen called it, “an elegant, inspirational and mysterious movie. Morris turns abstract ideas into haunting images.” Errol Morris will conduct a Q&A after the film, so get tickets now!

Also note: Online ticket sales for films being held at NYU venues–Mother of Rock, Puppet and To Be Heard–are closed, but you tickets are still available at the box office.

For a different kind of star show, join us for some of the wonderful music films we have on tap:

Mother of Rock: Lillian Roxon about trailblazing the Australian journalist who forecast the significance of musicians such as Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, and the Velvet Underground; and authored “Lillian Roxon’s Rock Encyclopedia” before succumbing to an early death at age 41. Director Paul Clarke brings Roxon’s words back to life and interviews friends including Danny Fields, Iggy Pop and Germaine Greer for this moving biography. (1:45 pm, Eisner)

Ride, Rise, Roar, a David Byrne concert film that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations. David Byrne and director David Hillman Curtis will chat with the audience after the film. (9:45 pm, Eisner)
