DOC NYC Starts Today!

November 02, 2011

DOC NYC kicks off today with an evening gala and screening of Werner Herzog’s Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life, and the State of the Industry panels during the day.

In Into the Abyss, Werner Herzog explores the human consequences of a triple homicide in Texas. He interviews the victims’ families and the convicted killers—including a 28-year-old man on death row, eight days before his execution. Critics have hailed it as “extraordinary” (New York Times) and “undeniably profound” (Variety). Following the film, Herzog will take part in a live discussion.

Today’s panel discussions, themed ‘State of the Industry,’ feature top decisions makers talking about the latest trends in documentary distribution. Discussions include State of TV, State of Theatrical, State of Digital, and Branded Content. Space permitting, all panels are free for current students presenting a valid photo ID.
