Episode 3 focuses on PBS’s Asian Americans, interviewing series producer Renee Tajima-Peña and executive producer Jean Tsien. Plus, filmmaker Hao Wu, director of the Netflix short All in My Family discusses how he witnessed Covid-19 arrive in China, then later in the U.S. The three guests will reflect on rising expressions of racism in the U.S.

DOC NYC Webinar: Film Promo and PR in Stay-at-Home Times

How do you raise attention for a film release during isolation? 

We’ll hear perspectives from publicists Charlie Olsky (Cinetic Marketing), and George Nicholis (Magnolia Pictures) and from journalist Eric Kohn (Indiewire)

They’ll discuss getting coverage for recent releases such as Crip Camp and Slay the Dragon; and raising awareness for premieres at festivals like SXSW and Tribeca that were disrupted by Covid-19.

How can filmmakers generate income while staying at home? Focused on approaches tailored to the times of Covid-19, this webinar discusses pathways to maintaining cash flow while typical funding and revenue-generating options are on hold for content creators.

POV’s Asad Muhammad will talk about American Documentary’s re-opening of its Artist Emergency Fund for those in the independent documentary community affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Kickstarter’s Elise McCave will discuss the platform’s brand-new initiative, “Inside Voices,” which invites creators to continue to make their work from home with support from the Kickstarter community.

And filmmaker Gary Hustwit (Helvetica) will share his insights on crowdfunding and repurposing unused material for new audiences.

DOC NYC Artistic Director Thom Powers will moderate.

DOC NYC’s programming team has been in constant contact with sales agents, distributors and marketing consultants to gather the best advice on how to navigate these unprecedented challenges. Among the questions we’ll address: How do films recover from cancelled spring festivals? Will streamers need new content? As education moves online, how can docs play a part? What are DIY strategies for this moment?

This  webinar will distill expert guidance to help filmmakers adapt and feel less isolated in this time of change.  Practical and empowering, the hour-long session will feature a panel moderated by new DOC NYC Director of Industry and Education Caitlin Boyle, and featuring:
