For the past eight years, DOC NYC has hosted DOC NYC PRO – an eight-day professional conference consisting of industry panels, masterclasses, pitching forums, and networking opportunities. Out of the success of DOC NYC PRO, DOC NYC launched day-long “Boot Camps” to provide the same opportunities to NYC audiences on a year-round basis, outside of festival dates. Kicking off in 2017, these Boot Camps have covered documentary content like marketing and distribution, and are now being further expanded to include editing, cinematography and a range of topics still to come.
Among the goals of DOC NYC PRO Boot Camps are:
- To create a space for emerging and established documentarians to learn from and connect with leaders in their field
- To provide rich, educational content suitable for both first-time and experienced filmmakers
- To explore both the craft and the business of the documentary space
- To offer an informative, engaging curriculum that can also appeal to general documentary fans and enthusiasts
- To provide a social and networking opportunity for discussions among peers
